Using the BPCS Website.
I thought it might be relevant to take a few moments to explain some of the elements of the site, and how best to use them, for new visitors and those who look in regularly as well. Most of all I'd like to explain the way I planned the Message Boards and Guestbook, as there seems to be a misconception on the use of them.
| Navigator - This is the section you see down the left hand side of the Website, it should always be present, but I'd be interested to know if anyone experiences a loss of it. If you always enter the Website from the very front page, you should firstly see the School badge, which once clicked, will lead you to a second page with a backdrop of the school entrance, and some words about the opening and closure of Binley Park. At the bottom, you are then click the school crest to enter the site, where you will find the main Navigator to the left of your browser. | ||
| Guestbook - This is where I invite any NEW visitors to say hello to the growing BPCS online community. Please also add a new entry if your email address changes. | ||
| Message Boards - I perceive that there are misconceptions about these. They are NOT chat rooms, where you meet people 'live', but they ARE a series of bulletin boards, where you can leave messages on any BPCS subject, from Pupils/Teachers you remember, to school dinners you hated. Absolutely anything BPCS, all I ask is that it is kept 'clean' and non-abusive towards individuals. So, instead of using the Guestbook again to write about a teacher you remember, use the Message Boards instead. When the site first began, they were quite lively with several users contributing. Recently, they have been notably lacking in new content. There are two ways of using the Message Boards. Registered use, means you go to the site, and register your name/alias and get the benefit of each post you make being logged, so the more you post, your status will change from Fuzzer, to Pupil, to Prefect etc. - just a fun thing, but you also benefit if you reply to a message, as the reply subject is auto-filled. Non-Registered users may also use the Message Boards, but will need to type a name every time, will stay a Fuzzer, and replies to subjects will not have the subject filled in. There is a help section at the site which will explain all the benefits of registering. | ||
| Email - Haven't got an email address yet, and looking in on a friends Computer? Well, anyone can have an email address, see the Tips page on how you might get yourself one, many are web-based, so you can read them from any Internet connected PC, be it at your friends house or at an Internet Cafe. |
